using and struggling

Relief from Vezelay Cathedral, France

When we discuss "using" the body and "struggling" to remain present, the language – which immediately evokes associations — presents its own set of obstacles. So take good care!

 This  sensation one discusses must become organic. We do not "use" our organs, or struggle with them. We have a natural and inherent relationship with them which is born of a living force within our Being.

 It's too early to speak of feeling and its action. First, we must take enough force in in terms of what is called "a higher energy" — receive it, by becoming transparent. Only that can bind the attention of the intellect to the attention of sensation.

 All of the lofty thoughts about paying attention, freedom, and so on can actually become a distraction from developing an intelligent relationship with sensation: a relationship where the sensation is voluntary.  This relationship is quite simple, and not composed of words or our ideas or aspirations.

It is critical to come to an understanding of the voluntary nature of sensation through direct experience of one's own sensation as it volunteers.

It is an intelligent force in its own right that will help... but only if we let it.
